Italian Wedding Locations
Weddings in Veneto
Veneto is one of the most romantic regions in Italy.
Each year hundreds of couples from around the world flock to the
beautiful and historic cities and villages in the Veneto area to
hold their wedding ceremonies, tying the knot in some of the most
memorable locations anywhere on Earth.
What bride has not dreamed of being married
in Venice, the most romantic city in all the world?
By far the most sought-after wedding destination
in all of Italy is Venice, with its canals and gondoliers and ancient
castles and villas. In fact, civil marriages in Venice are performed
in one of the grandest buildings in all the world, the Palazzo Cavalli,
an absolutely stunning 16th century Renaissance castle overlooking
the Grand Canal. Every detail of the villa has been restored to
its original splendor and your ceremony will take place in a magnificent
stateroom overlooking not only the Grand Canal but the famed Rialto
Bridge as well.
Imagine arriving at your wedding aboard a Gondola,
floating up the famed Grand Canal of Venice, and stepping through
an arched doorway into the magnificent entry hall of what was once
the stately home of the wealthy Cavalli family. Today you and your
guests will pass beneath original 17th century paintings, past original
statuary, and through hand-carved doors into the magnificent wedding
chamber with its one-of-a-kind view of the canals. This is truly
one of the most beautiful and unique locations for a wedding in
all the world.
Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou, Romeo?
East of Venice is Veneto’s second largest city,
Verona. Verona – home of the most famous lovers in history, Romeo
and Juliet. While Shakespear’s play did take a certain amount of
literary license, there was, indeed a real Juliet and a real Romeo
on which the play was based, and even today you can visit the home
of Juliet Capuleti, complete with its famous balcony. Could there
be a more romantic place for your wedding than within sight of the
homes of Romeo and Juliet?
Two thousand years ago the Romans built an Amphitheatre
in Verona that is still in use today. While the sounds of ancient
gladiator fights have long since drifted into history, today the
city of Verona is proud to put on operas in this well-preserved
piece of ancient history. Why not start your life together in this
romantic and historic place, with its winding cobblestone streets
and surprising flower gardens around every turn?
For history and some of the most famous
architecture in all the world you cannot do better than to marry
in the beautiful and romantic city of Vicenza.
If you are looking for a sense of history and permanence
you can’t do better than the ancient city of Vicenza. Arches and
ancient balconies are everyone you look. Much of the city is still
surrounded by a 13th century wall designed to protect the city from
marauders.
Much of Vicenza was designed by the famed Italian
architect, Andrea Palladio, who was born in 1508 and was one of
the greatest designers who ever lived. The timeless beauty of Vicenza
is a direct result of Palladio’s vision.
Italians love lovers and Italy makes it
relatively easy to get married.
Foreigners wishing to marry in any of Veneto’s
almost magically-beautiful cities will find themselves welcomed
with open arms. If neither the bride nor the groom lives in Italy,
there is virtually no waiting period. All that is necessary is for
the couple to appear before the proper authority in the town in
which the wedding is to take place and announce their intention
to get married. Assuming their paperwork is in order, a civil ceremony
can generally be performed within three to four days.
While the paperwork necessary to get married in
Italy is fairly straightforward, it is still recommended that you
find a professional wedding consultant to help guide you through
the procedure. It would be a shame to discover on your wedding day
that a single signature was missing on one piece of paperwork, preventing
your ceremony from taking place. Why not let a professional take
that stress off your shoulders?
To get married in Italy you will need a passport
or military identification card. A certified copy of a birth certificate.
A sworn statement with four witnesses that attests that you are
legally able to be married, and a declaration sworn to in front
of a U.S. consular officer at a U.S. embassy or consulate office
in Italy that there is no legal reason for the wedding not to proceed.
If either the bride or the groom is under 18 years
of age they need a signed consent from a parent or legal guardian.
Catholic weddings are a possibility – but
you may find it simpler to have a civil ceremony first and a religious
ceremony afterward.
While Catholic weddings are legal in Italy and
it is possible to have a Catholic wedding, the paperwork and the
time required to arrange for a religious ceremony if you are not
an Italian citizen is extensive and it is recommended that you contact
the church in which you wish to marry several months ahead of the
planned ceremony and make all of the arrangements.
A simpler solution is to have a civil ceremony
first. Arranging for a religious or a symbolic ceremony is much
simpler and less time-consuming if a civil wedding license is obtained
first.
Whatever your wedding dreams and fantasies may
be, you are almost certain to be able to fulfill them all with a
wedding in the Veneto region of Italy, one of the most beautiful
and most romantic places for a wedding in all the world.
